It's the beginning of another school year. We welcome all children both morning and afternoon classes. We're happy to have you with us. This time of the year, children are learning to be with other children. They also learn the teacher's expectations, classroom routines, and rules. There's so much to learn so we made them all fun through play, art, science, and stories. The books we read... The letters we learned...

On Sunday July 28th 2019, Way to Grow held an Early Learner Graduation at Urban Venture in South Minneapolis. Everyone was in attendance and graduates got their picture taken in gown and we had games and fun activities. Here are our 2019 Proud Graduates! Our last day of school for this school year was on August 2nd. So we had a celebration at Folwell Park. We sang songs, we got diplomas, we ate pizza and cookies and we swam in the wading pool. It was a perfect day, not too hot and too muggy. I think the families and the kids had a wonderful time. On July 12th, we went to the Children's Museum for our summer field trip. The children had a blast playing with lasers, water play while washing cars, bubbles, the giant slides, mechanical toys, pretend community play, outdoor musical toys and more. I think we tired them out that day! This summer, we didn't start a project instead we did an author study. In the afternoon class, we read books from Kevin Henkes while in the morning class, we read books from Mo Willems. With the afternoon class, we talked about the characters, settings, problems, and solutions after every 3rd or 4th read in poster form. Apart from that children get intense intervention this summer for their literacy skills. We also kept creating wonderful artworks. To enjoy the warm days, we took long neighborhood walks, we talked about what we might see, make a list and children tried to find all the things on the list. But when the days get too hot, we burned our energy indoor with mats, balls, hula hoops and tunnels. The shapes we learned... The books we read... On May 29th, we had our field trip to the zoo. While we learned all things about building, we also learned about animals that build their homes such as beaver, mouse, and birds. The zoo field trip has always been a fun trip. We had a list of animals that the children wanted to see, we tried to find them and some of them were disappointed that the zoo didn't have animals like a whale, llama, hammerhead shark, panda and rhino (need to go to a different zoo for those animals 🙂) This was the last music class with Ms. Nora this school year. We looked back to some of our favorite songs to sing and move around. Then Ms. Nora had all the children tried to play with Temple Blocks, it made a very interesting sound. We ended the session with everyone played with Tone Blocks in many different ways! Thank you Ms. Nora!! We finally found the thing that the children were interested in, building. They seemed to like building things with different materials such as blocks, boxes, manipulative toys etc. So we decided that we're going to talk about it further. We put different size boxes, cups and constructions toys for them to use to build. The result was amazing creativity! Through the project we created a book for our bus driver during "Bus Driver Appreciation Day", plants tomatoes and peppers in our garden and most of all enjoy the warm weather! The shapes we learned... The books we read... Our last project was Pet Fish and we've been planning to go to Sea Life as part of our learning but the weather said otherwise. We have been canceling this trip twice but as they said third time's a charm. This time, the weather was beautiful and we knew more about the fish and learned new things too. |
