Somali Culture Celebration

8/4/2016

On July 8th, we celebrate Somali Culture, right after muslim's Eid Celebration. Most Somali are muslim, they fast during the Ramadan season and at the end of Ramadan they have Eid Celebration. We had one of our Somali children's parent & her family educator come to our classroom to do henna with the children and teachers. Henna is used by many Somali as part of social and holiday celebration. Some Somali children came in their traditional outfit and already had henna on their hands and arms. We had Sambusa (traditional fried dish with savory filling of mince meat) and spiced milk tea for snack. We ended the day with a read aloud of "Rashad Ramadan & Eid-al-Fitr" by Lisa Bullard.
