Project Pet Fish (Phase 1)

1/2/2019

While we're discussing about family as one of the children's community, we came upon a discussion about pets. So we did a writing/drawing activity of what kind of pet they want. Some likes cat, dog, bunny, fish, turtle and so on. So this could be a project that the children would like to learn more. Based on the three most popular pets (dog, cat and fish), we did a vote. The winner was FISH. So here we are, in a journey of learning more about pet fish. That same week, we noticed that one of our pet fish in our fish tank died. So we had a discussion of why did the fish die? and what should we do with the dead fish? Then we wrote messages on what the children would like to say to the dead fish. As the weeks went on, we talked about what they know about fish and what they want to know about fish. As an art activity, they made their own fish based on their hair, their siblings (how many scales), where they live etc. Our pretend center changed from a family house to a veterinary. We read books about fish, talked about part of fish body and in our sensory table, we played pick up goldfish with tweezers. Next year, the project continues to phase 2.

The books we read...

The letters we learn...
