In this theme, we learned about what's happening on a farm. We learned about animals that live on a farm, the farmers that take care of the animals, where food comes from, plants that farmers plant on a farm and that vehicle that farmers ride, tractor. There's a barn in our pretend center and children took care of the many different animals there. We decorated our barn with plants that grows on a farm, there were corn field, berry patch and flower garden. We also did other art around the book that we read such as we made hand print of ducks when we read "Duck on a Bike", we created our own farm then drew the map when we read "What's happening on a farm?" and we colored, cut and created our version of a tractor when we read "Otis". When we read "Apple Farmer Annie", we did apple tasting, where children tried 3 different apples (Red Delicious, Granny Smith & Golden Delicious) check our the chart and see which one was the favorite winner! We also made Apple Crisp where the children helped peel the apples with the peelers. We watched a Sesame Street Documentary of where our food comes from, they're not from the grocery stores or cans. Our writing center filled with activities where children wrote farm vocabularies, did counting activities, letter name and sounds activities, rhyming matching games and number recognition activities. We did picking up eggs activities and scoop the letter and form words activities in our sensory table. We also have number and letter matching eggs in our manipulatives toy section. We did an experiment with cabbage and colored water, where every day a scientist (one of the job in the classroom), recorded data what happened to the cabbage. The color didn't move as fast as expected but the children enjoyed doing a job of a scientist.
