A Marvelous March

Spring has sprung for our preschoolers this month in March! To learn about the change in seasons our unit this month was all about spring! The students talked and learned about how in spring temperature gets warmer outside, plants and flowers start growing again, we start to see a lot more animals outside such as birds, rabbits, and squirrels, and spring is the season when we will start our class garden! They have also started learning about some animals and insects that change in spring, that caterpillars turn into butterflies and tadpoles grow up to be frogs.
The morning class has been working very hard this month learning and practicing matching words with the same beginning sound (e.g. girl, goat, gate)! They were also introduced to the concept of syllables and how to count how many are in a word by putting your hand under your jaw and counting how many times your hand moves when you say a word. We also had some sensory fun for St. Patrick's Day by turning shaving cream green! We also got to play with some new instruments with our music teacher, Ms. Nora, and got to dance and sing with the parachute!
The afternoon class this month put on their scientist and chef hats for part of some spring fun! They got to predict and observe what was going to happen during some really cool science experiments about the water cycle (evaporation, condensation, precipitation). They got to see how water changes in different environments and how it turns into rain or snow and falls from the sky! At the end of their week reading “There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Frog!” They had lots of fun making and eating dirt, just like the old lady! We also ended the month by making a sweet rainbow treat before saying happy spring break!
Both classes also got to do lots of cool art this month! The morning class did paintings with marbles where they got to make the colors move and make patterns using gravity. They also got to do a St. Patrick’s Day themed craft and make some beautiful shamrocks. The afternoon class spent time learning about the artist Claude Monet, where he lived and what he liked to paint. They got to make their own beautiful paintings inspired by Monet’s water lily painting and did a wonderful job!
Just like what we learned happens in spring, March brought us some beautiful warmer weather this month which both classes took advantage of! Both classes got to spend lots of time outdoors going to the park and drawing with chalk. The students got good refreshers on safety when walking as a class outside, crossing the street, and always staying together with their friends and teachers. On our walks we got to see lots of animals on our way to the park such as bunnies, birds, and a very nice orange cat named Norm.
March was a marvelous month for our preschoolers full of fun and learning and we can’t wait to see what waits for us in April!
